Are all dishwasher capsules the same?
No. Dishwasher capsules vary in enzymes, alkaline ingredients, degreasers and bleaching agents. The best choice depends on the type of soil, water hardness and wash program. A “chlorine-free” claim alone says little about overall performance or safety.
What are oxygen-based bleaching agents?
Some dishwasher products use sodium percarbonate (sodium carbonate peroxide), which releases active oxygen during washing and helps remove certain stains. This differs from chlorine-based bleach, but the capsules must still be used according to the manufacturer's instructions.
What should you compare?
- Ingredients and intended use. Check that the product is specifically intended for an automatic dishwasher.
- Dosing. Use the amount recommended on the label; adding another capsule does not necessarily improve results.
- Water hardness. Follow both your dishwasher's and the capsule maker's guidance regarding salt and rinse aid.
- Certifications. The independent EU Ecolabel sets criteria for specific certified products. A label granted to one product does not automatically extend to every product from that brand.
Why does safe storage matter?
Detergent ingredients in capsules can irritate skin and eyes. Keep them tightly closed in the original container, dry and out of reach of children and pets. Never use dishwasher capsules when handwashing dishes.
